Setting Apart, President Peter Larkin

Meghan Godfrey Setting Apart January 15, 2013

Meghan Godfrey, by the power of the Melchizedek priesthood that we hold, we lay our hands upon your head, having been authorized by our Stake President, who holds the keys to the administration of the priesthood within our stake, and we set you apart as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to serve in the Chile, Santiago East mission.  We take this opportunity to express our great love for you, our great pride for the decision that you have come to to serve our Heavenly Father at this important time in your life.  We recognize the sacrifice that tis is in your life, and promise you and bless you to know that because of this effort at this time, this great sacrifice that you will be blessed from now on, throughout your life, from your experiences, your efforts and your sacrifice while serving as a missionary.  We bless you to know the great love that our Heavenly Father has for you for having kept yourself worthy to be able to go on a mission at this time. We bless you to know as well, that as was promised by your bishop, that our Heavenly Father will be with you in all that you do.  He will raise you up to each occasion, and he will bless you with all that you need to do and be, to be successful in your endeavors.  We bless you to understand that although you say frequently that you are not a book smart person, that you sell yourself short.  You are a very intelligent and wise young woman.  You have a great capacity, great capacity to learn this language. We bless you with the gift of tongues that our Heavenly Father bestows upon his missionaries as they travel to distant lands.  We bless you that as you hear the language of those in Chile, that you will be able to decipher and understand the words, that as you speak, that words will come to you and you will understand the grammar, and the pronunciation, and how to communicate effectively.  We bless you to know that this will not all come at one time, but it will come quickly, and as long as you put in your diligent effort and study and practice, this effort will pay off and you will become a powerful tool for our Heavenly Father.  You will be able to bear witness and explain the doctrines of the church and answer questions that people have.  We bless you as well as President Taylor has spoken, that each person that you come in touch with, you will see them as our Heavenly Father sees them and the great potential that they have, that you will never believe or think that those people are any less than what they could be.  Because of this and this great vision that you have for them, that you will be fearless, that you will be challenging, and that you will truly become an instrument in our Heavenly Father to bring to pass great and glorious things in the lives of the people of Chile.  We bless you as you enter the MTC, that the loneliness and frustration that you may feel at that time will be but for a short moment, that you will recognize how important it is to prepare to serve those people of Chile, and that you will use your time in the MTC to prepare yourself so once you land in that distant country that you will be prepared to serve, and to preach and to teach.  We bless you that you will find joy while you serve there, that many wonderful and incredible truths will be unlocked for you.  Most importantly, we bless you that as you prepare and as you serve that you will come to know the Savior as you have never known him before, that he will truly be your brother, you will feel his love, you will feel his guidance.  You will have a strong desire to serve him, to keep yourself worthy, to obey the mission rules, and that the great love that you feel from him and towards him will be exemplified in the service that you render and the way the way that you treat those people you come into contact with. We bless you to get along well with your companions.  It is such a difficult thing to live with people that you don’t know, that have different cultural backgrounds, different experiences in their lives, and they think completely different than you, but we bless you that you will come together in a spirit of unity with each of your companions, that you will be forgiving and resilient, and that together you will be able to preach and teach with the spirit of love.  We bless you as well to have a wonderful relationship with your Mission President and his wife, that you will be able to be free and open with your thoughts with them, and have great trust in his stewardship and authority, his responsibility as Mission President, and know that he can be such a great blessing to you as he imparts his thoughts and his wisdom and his direction.  We bless you with safety as well, that you will be very mindful of danger around you.  That you will be specifically blessed to know when you are in a dangerous situation, and what you should do.  And because of this you will be courageous, you will never worry, you will know that our Heavenly Father is around about you, that you will be protected.  We bless you with all things that you stand in need of, Meghan, to go out and serve as a Missionary for our Heavenly Father.  We remind you of the great love of those that are at home here, that you will be in our prayers and our thoughts.  We find great joy in those things that you share and the great experiences that you have and encourage you to share all things that you experience.  We bless you with all these things again, with our great love, and all other things that our Heavenly Father knows that you need as you begin at this great service, and this we do in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
